2009 New Zealand Internet Industry Awards

The 2009 New Zealand Internet Industry Awards were held on 20 August 2009 at The Banquet Hall, Parliament Buildings, Wellington.

Speeches were given by Minister of Internal Affairs the Hon. Nathan Guy and Vint Cerf, the “Father of the Internet.”

These annual awards are presented in four categories, which acknowledge, reward and encourage Internet entrepreneurship, business applications, social benefits and educational programs to New Zealand life involving the Internet. 

Award Winners

The Societal Impact Award - development of the application, product or services provided on the Internet likely to have the most beneficial impact on New Zealand society.

Finalists: TheLowDown.co.nz, Inland Revenue, Health TV Limited, Deaf Aotearoa New Zealand.

Winner: TheLowDown.co.nz.

Best Education Product or Service Award on the Internet - the application, product or services provided on the Internet that is likely to have the greatest impact on learning and/or teaching in New Zealand.

Finalists: Digital New Zealand, Hector's World Limited, PocketSmith.

Winner: Digital New Zealand.

Best Business Application on the Internet - for those that transform their methods of doing business, or change our way of doing business with them.

Finalists: Xero Limited, Pinnacle Life, Kiwibank, Liverton Limited.

Winner: Xero Limited.

Internet Entrepreneur of the Year - recognition for that rare breed who has put capital and reputation on the line and successfully contributed to New Zealand’s wealth.
